{"id":8143,"date":"2026-09-01T06:06:20","date_gmt":"2026-09-01T06:06:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nextcitydigest.com\/?p=8143"},"modified":"2026-09-01T06:06:20","modified_gmt":"2026-09-01T06:06:20","slug":"arrest-made-in-hit-and-run-that-left-well-known-richmond-man-dead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nextcitydigest.com\/?p=8143","title":{"rendered":"Arrest made in hit-and-run that left well known Richmond man dead"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<p>RICHMOND \u2014 Authorities on Monday announced an arrest in a fatal hit-and-run collision last week.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nextcitydigest.com\/?p=8142\">Two injured in Peninsula freeway shooting<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The incident happened at 8:30 p.m. Aug. 23 at Hellings Avenue and 23rd Street, according to the Richmond Police Department.<\/p>\n<p>At a news conference Monday, police said the victim \u2014 identified as Rafael Delgado, 81, of Richmond \u2014 was in a \u201cmarked, well-lit\u201d crosswalk when a car hit him.<\/p>\n<p>Delgado ended up on the hood and was carried a \u201cgood distance\u201d before he fell to the ground, according to police.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators obtained footage of the hit-and-run collision and used automated license plate reader technology to identify the suspected vehicle, Lt. Donald Patchin said.<\/p>\n<p>On Aug. 25, investigators found the car abandoned in the city, according to police.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nextcitydigest.com\/?p=8141\">Bicyclist dies following collision with car in Hayward<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Police seized the vehicle as evidence and identified its owner as Don Mack, 66, of Richmond.
