Lutticken\u2019s Deli and After 5 Restaurant, a sandwich shop and restaurant that has operated in unincorporated West Menlo Park since 1981, is set to close at the end of September.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything\u2019s going to be shut down September 30,\u201d said manager Judy Congdon, who\u2019s worked there since it opened. \u201cIt\u2019s very sad.\u201d<\/p>\n

The closure will also include the eatery\u2019s two dining outposts at Stanford University and one on Sand Hill Road, according to Congdon.<\/p>\n

The cozy eatery on Alameda de las Pulgas in West Menlo Park serves locals throughout the day, operating as a coffee shop, as a sandwich and Mexican food restaurant during the day, and, in its After 5 iteration, as a beer and wine bar, too. It also hosts regular live music events and a weekly karaoke night with a loyal following.<\/p>\n

Grilled sandwiches \u2014 like the Hawaiian, featuring ham, Swiss cheese, and pineapple salsa; or a pork torta with peppers, crema and jack cheese (both $12.95), are on offer alongside a lengthy menu of custom sandwich and sub options, while a burrito selection (with all items under $11) rounds out the menu.<\/p>\n

In 2024, it was awarded the California Senate District 13\u2019s Small Business of the Year by State Sen. Josh Becker, and over the years, has been involved in the community as a Little League team sponsor. But business hasn\u2019t bounced back since the pandemic, and staying open has been a struggle, according to Congdon.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re just not making the money we used to make,\u201d she said.\u00a0\u201cIf it was sustainable, we would stay open. But it\u2019s not.\u201d<\/p>\n

Details:<\/strong> Open 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Mondays, 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sundays at 3535 Alameda de las Pulgas, Menlo Park until Sept. 30.<\/p>\n
