PLEASANTON \u2014 Police are investigating a possible murder-suicide inside a home, authorities said Thursday.<\/p>\n

The two people killed have been identified by police as Shelly Wang, 64, the owner of the home in the 4600 block of Jefferson Court, and Evgeniy Ilin, a 39-year-old man who was renting a room from her, police said in a news release. Both died from gunshot wounds.<\/p>\n

Their bodies were found about 7:16 p.m. Wednesday after officers went to make a welfare check at the home, which is in a residential area not far from Interstate 680. A nearby tenant had been unable to contact them for several days and requested officers check on them, police said in a news release.<\/p>\n

Officers entered the home and quickly found Wang, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Ilin was found deceased in another room with a single gunshot wound and a handgun was located next to him, police said.<\/p>\n

Police said the gun was legally owned by Ilin and was registered to him. He had been living at the home for at least a couple of years, police said.<\/p>\n

Police said both people appear to have died several days earlier.<\/p>\n

At this time, the deaths are being investigated as a potential murder-suicide, police said. The motive is not known. No note was found, police said.<\/p>\n

Investigators believe this was an isolated incident, and there is no threat to public safety.<\/p>\n
