This August, Children\u2019s Fairyland in Oakland is throwing a weekend-long party to celebrate the 70th anniversary of its Storybook Puppet Theater. And the nation\u2019s oldest continuously running puppet theater has invited a lot of big names to participate in this \u201cPuppet Fair Weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n

There will be performances by the Bob Baker Marionette Theater, whose creator worked with Disney, Steven Spielberg and \u201cStar Trek\u201d and whose theater is a historic-cultural landmark in L.A. The San Francisco Bay Area Puppet Guild will demonstrate arts and crafts, Fratello Marionettes will perform \u201cJack and the Beanstalk\u201d and the Magical Moonshine Theatre will do \u201cPuppylocks and the Three Bears.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kids and adults can even go backstage at the park\u2019s puppet theater, to see who pulls the strings. \u201cAudiences of every age will be mesmerized when the world of puppetry comes to life for one magical weekend,\u201d the organizers write. \u201cIt\u2019s like Coachella for people who love puppets, puppet shows and puppeteers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Details: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. August 29-30 at 699 Bellevue Ave., Oakland; $20 for adults and $18 for ages 17 and under, fairyland.org\/fairyland-calendar<\/p>\n
