Space aliens finally landed in San Francisco on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

And \u2014 no surprise \u2014 they were treated like conquering heroes from some far-away world, one where music and artistic expression don\u2019t sound like anything you\u2019ll hear on earthly Top 40 pop radio.<\/p>\n

These visitors go by the names of Khn and Klek de Poitrine and their backstory, at least the one they reportedly like to tell, is that they are 333-year-old space aliens from another planet.<\/p>\n

But you can just call them Angine de Poitrine, the hottest buzz act in all of rock \u2018n\u2019 roll right now. Although, to be honest, I\u2019m not sure we can call what they play as rock \u2018n\u2019 roll. They definitely don\u2019t call it that, preferring instead the label \u201cOrchestre Mantra-Rock Dada Pythago-Cubiste\u201d \u2014 which I\u2019m sure will be a brand new Billboard chart any day now.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a definite cousin to artsy math rock, which is characterized by complex rhythmic structures, odd time signatures and other elements that are not heard in Benson Bone songs, although there is also a sizable groove element to it.<\/p>\n

Whatever you want to call it, or however you hear it, the music sure hit home with the 500-or-so attendees who were lucky enough to score tickets to Angine de Poitrine\u2019s way-sold-out show at The Independent in San Francisco.<\/p>\n

It was definitely the place to be on Wednesday \u2014 a true bragging rights ticket for all the cool kids and hipsters, to be able to say that they witnessed the duo that everyone seems to be talking about right now. And, thankfully, Angine de Poitrine proved during its 75-minute show that it\u2019s definitely worth all the advance buzz and then some.<\/p>\n

The Angine de Poitrine story really takes flight in the Canadian province of Quebec \u2014 which, apparently is where these space aliens choose to adopt as their home away from home planet about seven years ago \u2014 and they used the setting as a base to begin building a musical empire. They true attention from their absurdist outfits and imagery \u2014 which include large papier-m\u00e2ch\u00e9 masks and a ridiculous amount of black-and-white polka dots \u2014 but solidified their following with their bizarrely engaging microtonal musical approach.<\/p>\n

Angine de Poitrine (the French term for angina pectoris \u2014 which is chest pain caused by insufficient blood flow to the heart) really hit the big time thanks to a \u201cLive on KEXP\u201d recording taped in late 2025, which went viral and now (collectively) has over 20 million on YouTube alone. The comments on the videos find viewers wrestling to understand and contextualize the duo\u2019s futuristic, out-of-this-world performance.\u201d<\/p>\n
