SAN FRANCISCO \u2014 A Bay Area man was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison for possessing ammunition with one major breakaway from most similar cases \u2014 it was the ammunition he allegedly used to kill a man and a dog, court records show.<\/p>\n

Johnny Jameson was sentenced at a July 31 court date by U.S. District Judge Susan Illston, rejecting a federal prosecutor\u2019s argument for 33 months on the basis that Jameson \u201cremains a danger to the community.\u201d The felon in possession of ammunition charge stems from the Dec. 23, 2024 killing of 44-year-old Patrick \u201cProject\u201d Riley during an argument with Jameson that concerned Riley\u2019s dogs, according to court records. The two were seen talking in a parked car in San Francisco before the shooting.<\/p>\n

Jameson\u2019s lawyers argued that Riley brandished a rifle during the encounter and Jameson fired his own gun in self-defense. He was never charged in San Francisco County for the shooting but federal prosecutors picked up the ammunition case, accusing Jameson of possessing the bullets he used to kill Riley and Riley\u2019s dog, Cookie.<\/p>\n

A defense sentencing memo says Jameson and Riley were together for an hour with no problems, and that the fight started after one of the dogs bit Jameson in the leg. It includes letters of support, including one from his longtime romantic partner who said his absence during incarceration has been \u201cincredibly difficult.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring his incarceration, I have seen Johnny become more thoughtful about his life,\u201d the woman wrote. \u201cHe has taken parenting classes, spent time reading the Bible, and reflected deeply on the kind of father and man he wants to be.\u201d<\/p>\n
