SAN JOSE \u2014 A Bay Area restaurant executive and Michelin-star chef who specializes in Indian cuisine are set to open a new restaurant at the historic Hotel De Anza in downtown San Jose, according to official state records.<\/p>

Restaurant entrepreneur Ayesha Thapar and chef Srijith \u201cSri\u201d Gopinathan received a state liquor license for a drinking establishment that must also operate as a restaurant at 233 W. Santa Clara St., public records on file with the Alcoholic Beverage Control Department show.<\/p>\n

ANS Provisions, which received the state ABC license, lists Thapar as its president and Gopinathan as treasurer. The license became effective Aug. 5 and was transferred from the principal owners of the hotel.<\/p>\n

Thapar and Gopinathan have teamed up to run multiple high-level restaurants in the Bay Area, including Eylan in Menlo Park, Ettan in Palo Alto, Little Blue Door in Los Altos, and Copra in San Francisco.<\/p>\n

\"A<\/figure>\nEylan, which opened last year, was named a Michelin Guide \u201cnew discovery.\u201d Gopinathan was chef at San Francisco\u2019s Campton Place during the time it had two Michelin stars.<\/p>\n

The two restaurant entrepreneurs operate through a company called the Cal-India Collective.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur offerings are grounded in an authentic Indian pedigree informed by California\u2019s reverence for seasonality and exceptional local ingredients,\u201d the company states on its website.<\/p>\n

The name of the new restaurant at Hotel De Anza wasn\u2019t immediately known. Work is well underway in a space next to the West Santa Clara Street entrance of the 10-story tower.<\/p>

Word of the new restaurant has arrived at a time when the hotel has launched a wide-ranging renovation.<\/p>\n

Dhaval Panchal and Sean Curtis, co-owners of Hotel De Anza, see plenty of upside in the 100-room hotel they paid $11.5 million for in 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe love this place,\u201d said Curtis, the hotel\u2019s chief operating officer. \u201cIt\u2019s an iconic, great hotel.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2025, the owners relit the neon sign on top, a key piece of the venture to greatly restore the property.<\/p>

Inside, the ownership group is renovating the lobby area along with the Palm Terrace and the historic Hedley Club, according to Curtis.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe entire hotel will be brand new,\u201d Curtis said. \u201cWe will be painting the hotel back to the color that it was in the 1990s. The hotel is going to be painted from top to bottom.\u201d<\/p>
