RICHMOND \u2014 A local resident has been sentenced to 11 years and eight months in state prison for crashing his Mustang while under the influence, resulting in the death of a 16-year-old driver, court records show.<\/p>\n

Alexi Pineda-Ticas, 32, pleaded no contest last March to vehicular manslaughter and drunk driving. He was sentenced in April and transferred to North Kern State Prison, where he is currently housed. A sentencing record says he received credit for 130 days toward his sentence, a fraction of the time he spent in jail since the 2024 crash.<\/p>\n

Police said Pineda-Ticas was speeding through city streets on July 15, 2024 when he crashed his Mustang into another car on Ohio Street, a little after midnight. The other driver, 16-year-old son Ricky Funes-Barajas, was killed. Pineda-Ticas was injured in the crash and emergency responders had to extract him from his vehicle.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors charged Pineda-Ticas with murder, but that count was dropped as part of the plea deal, court records show. If he hadn\u2019t pleaded no contest to manslaughter, his murder trial would\u2019ve started in April, according to court records.<\/p>\n

At the time of the crash, Funes-Barajas\u2019 mother told the news station KTVU that her son was pulling out of a relative\u2019s driveway when the Mustang struck his vehicle. She gathered signatures for a petition to oppose lowering Pineda-Ticas\u2019 bail, which remained at $1.1 million for the case\u2019s duration, court records show.<\/p>\n
