SAN FRANCISCO \u2014 Detroit right-hander Keider Montero tried to fool Rafael Devers with an 80-mph knuckle curve. But Devers, with two outs in the first inning Friday, wasn\u2019t close to being deceived. The Giants slugger pounced on the 2-2 pitch and launched it 401 feet, over the centerfield wall for his 24th home run of the year.<\/p>\n

It was the first sign this night at Oracle Park would be a good one for the Giants.<\/p>\n

The Giants, losers of five of their previous six games, opened the nine-game homestand with a 5-2 home win over the Tigers.<\/p>\n

Adrian Houser (3-7) got the win, giving up just one run on six hits with four strikeouts in five innings of work. After Devers drove in two in the first inning, Jung Hoo Lee delivered a two-out hit in the second inning to put the Giants ahead 4-2. It was all the offense the hosts would need. San Francisco touched up Detroit for 11 hits, including Willy Adames\u2019 19th home run in the fifth inning.<\/p>\n

For the first time this season, Giants manager Tony Vitello opted to go with an opener in lieu of a traditional starting pitcher.<\/p>\n

Reliever J.T. Brubaker allowed a run in his only inning before Houser took over the mound.<\/p>\n

The most tense moments for Houser came in the top half of the fifth inning. After two singles that put runners on the corners, on two would-be sacrifice fly outs that fouled to right, Jung Hoo Lee would show off his wheels and his arm to strand the runner at third. Grant McCrae would use his speed to make an acrobatic sliding play on a blooped hit to second to keep the score 5-2 Giants.<\/p>\n

Keaton Winn would relieve Houser in the seventh inning and face three batters before Sam Hentges took over. Dylan Smith would come in for the save in the ninth.<\/p>\n
