SAN JOSE \u2014 A two-story 152,700-square-foot data center could be built on a 10.1-acre site in South San Jose, according to public records. The request extends a surge of proposals to develop advanced computing hubs in the Bay Area\u2019s largest city.<\/p>\n

Multiple proposals have emerged for some sort of development of the vacant property near the corner of Embedded Way and Hellyer Avenue since Rockpoint Group paid $15.7 million for it in 2022.<\/p>\n

Oppidan, a real estate firm that frequently partners with Rockpoint Group on development projects, filed the proposal for the data center, which is being planned on a site next to Coyote Creek and is part of the Edenvale industrial area.<\/p>\n

The data center would require 18 megawatts of electricity to operate and would be roughly 1.3 miles from a PG&E substation at 6402 Santa Teresa Blvd. in San Jose.<\/p>\n

Oakland-based PG&E recently doubled the capacity of its Santa Teresa substation to 80 megawatts and has configured it so it can be readily expanded beyond its current capacity.<\/p>\n

Property owners and developers have filed a growing number of proposals to build data centers in San Jose, in areas such as North San Jose, Alviso, and South San Jose.<\/p>\n
