Thousands packed onto Linda Mar Beach in Pacifica on Saturday to watch the annual World Dog Surfing Championships. Small, medium, large, and even extra large four-legged surfers took to the waves.<\/p>\n

The competition, which was originally called the \u201cSmall Wave Surf Dog Competition,\u201d began in 2006. A portion of the proceeds of this event go to dog, surfing and environmental nonprofits.<\/p>\n

According to its website, \u201cThe World Championships for Dog Surfing are based on the California coast \u2014 where the concept for the sport originated \u2014 bringing together dog surfing talent.\u00a0 Dog surfers are invited to bring home the gold for charity.\u201d<\/p>\n
