Nicki Minaj\u2019s embrace of Donald Trump and his MAGA politics may extend to the \u201cQueen of Rap\u201d doing a big, big favor for the president\u2019s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, an aspiring pop singer.<\/p>\n

Minaj, one of the most influential rappers of all time, and one of the world\u2019s best-selling music artists, is \u201cin talks\u201d to record a duet with the 43-year-old Lara Trump, who has been trying to get an \u201cunlikely\u201d singing career going for the past few years, entertainment writer Rob Shuter reported on his Naughty But Nice Substack.<\/p>\n

Multiple music industry insiders told Shuter the conversations have been going on for weeks, although nothing has been signed.<\/p>\n

\u201cLara is definitely driving this,\u201d a well-placed music source told Shuter. \u201cShe made the first move, they\u2019ve been talking, and Nicki hasn\u2019t shut the door. This is much more than a passing idea.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not known what kind of duet the women could record together. But Lara Trump has shown a certain versatility in her musical performances, releasing country, pop and dance tracks online. Unfortunately for the one-time TV producer and former Republican National Committee co-chair, her performances have frequently been ridiculed, with her singing called a \u201cGeneva Convention Violation.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

In 2023, Lara Trump recorded a widely mocked cover of Tom Petty\u2019s \u201cI Won\u2019t Back Down,\u201d the Daily Beast reported. More recently, the wife of Eric Trump went viral \u2014 for the wrong reasons \u2014 when she teamed up with Egyptian rapper Mohamed Ramadan to record a video for a dance-track collaboration, \u201cSah-Sah.\u201d<\/p>\n

They recorded the video at the Trump National Golf Club in Jupiter, Florida, last September, but a clip from the video gained traction on social media when it was released in January, the Daily Beast said. People had lots to say about Lara Trump\u2019s dance moves as she traded verses with Ramadan, who commands more than 31 million Instagram followers. The Daily Beast said the mother of two \u201cmurders the dance floor in a cringe video\u201d as she performed alongside the rapper.<\/p>\n

So, Minaj might have to do some heavy lifting to make Lara Trump look like she credibly belongs in her musical company. But Minaj may be up to the task and her collaboration with the president\u2019s daughter-in-law may not seem so far-fetched, as Shuter said.<\/p>\n

In January, Minaj declared herself \u201cthe President\u2019s No. 1 fan\u201d when she visited the White House to support the launch of Trump Accounts, a proposed savings initiative for children. As Time magazine reported, Minaj support for Trump appears to have been a long time coming with her interest in conservative politics going back to at least the 2012 presidential election, when she referred to herself \u201cas a Republican voting for Mitt Romney\u201d in a guest verse for\u00a0\u00a0Lil Wayne\u2019s track \u201cMercy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Minaj told Time she became disenchanted with Barack Obama and frustrated by the expectation that Black entertainers would reflexively vote Democratic. Her disillusionment was in part the product of Obama\u2019s friendship with Jay-Z, Time reported. \u201cLots of rappers don\u2019t like Jay-Z,\u201d Minaj said about the entertainment mogul who has accumulated a lot of power in the industry.<\/p>\n

Minaj also gained support in MAGA circles in 2021 after she faced online backlash for voicing skepticism about COVID-19 vaccines. But even as she drifted towards Trump\u2019s politics, she initially opted to stay quiet for fear of alienating fans. \u201cIt\u2019s been ingrained in everyone\u2019s brain in the music business that we are supposed to be a Democratic family,\u201d she said. \u201cI just knew they would not like me supporting Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Minaj is now open about her support for Trump, it remains to be seen whether that extends to putting her artistry on the line to nurture the musical aspirations of one of his family members. Nothing about a duet with Lara Trump has been officially announced and no recording date has been set, Shuter said. But sources insisted to Shuter the talks are \u201cgenuine.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIdeas have been exchanged, and everyone involved knows it would create an enormous amount of buzz,\u201d a source told Shuter. \u201cWhether people stream it because they love it or because they can\u2019t believe it exists is beside the point.\u201d<\/p>\n
