{"id":4837,"date":"2026-07-18T21:09:22","date_gmt":"2026-07-18T21:09:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nextcitydigest.com\/?p=4837"},"modified":"2026-07-18T21:09:22","modified_gmt":"2026-07-18T21:09:22","slug":"hazardous-materials-incident-sickens-8-staff-members-at-salinas-valley-state-prison","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nextcitydigest.com\/?p=4837","title":{"rendered":"Hazardous materials incident sickens 8 staff members at Salinas Valley State Prison"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>By Bay City News<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A hazardous materials team was dispatched to Salinas Valley State Prison in Soledad after eight members of the custody staff were sickened Friday afternoon, California corrections officials said.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nextcitydigest.com\/?p=4835\">Word Game: July 18, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Monterey County Hazardous Materials Response Team, which was summoned, is specially trained to respond to chemical spills, toxic reactions and illicit synthetic opioid exposures, according to the county Health Department.<\/p>\n<p>The cause of the illnesses wasn\u2019t immediately disclosed.<\/p>\n<p>The hazmat team was called at 4:41 p.m. when eight staff members \u201cfell ill\u201d in the Facility C visiting area, said Bryan Byrd, a spokesman for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.<\/p>\n<p>The staff members were taken to an outside medical facility, treated and released, Byrd said.
