{"id":4156,"date":"2026-07-10T04:13:48","date_gmt":"2026-07-10T04:13:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nextcitydigest.com\/?p=4156"},"modified":"2026-07-10T04:13:48","modified_gmt":"2026-07-10T04:13:48","slug":"warriors-steph-curry-shares-his-free-agency-pitch-to-lebron-james","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nextcitydigest.com\/?p=4156","title":{"rendered":"Warriors\u2019 Steph Curry shares his free agency pitch to LeBron James"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<p><span>As he prepares for the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament at Lake Tahoe, Warriors star Steph Curry fielded questions Thursday about the Warriors\u2019 offseason.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nextcitydigest.com\/?p=4154\">Letters: America\u2019s promise seen in the victories of the vulnerable<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span>The most notable topic of conversation at Edgewood Tahoe was a move the Warriors have not yet made.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Golden State is a candidate to sign longtime nemesis LeBron James as an unrestricted free agent.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Steph Curry, 38, said he did not have an exact percentage that he could ascribe to the Warriors\u2019 chances of signing James, but he already had his reasoning for why the Bay Area would be the perfect landing spot for the league\u2019s all-time leading scorer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe pitch is we want to play good basketball and be around people that know how to play the game,\u201d Curry said, sitting next to the last two ACC tournament champions, tennis player Mardy Fish and former Sharks captain Joe Pavelski. \u201cHopefully, raise our floor on our competitiveness this year. We\u2019re an organization that\u2019s been there and he knows that. It\u2019s self-explanatory. It\u2019s just a matter of where he sees himself fitting, and at the end of the day, that\u2019s up to him.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>He also noted that the Bay Area has plenty of great golf, Curry\u2019s top pastime and one James has been taking up more.<\/p>\n<p><span>On a recent podcast by James\u2019 agent, Rich Paul, the Warriors were listed among 10 teams with a realistic shot at signing his client.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Warriors have run most of last season\u2019s roster back this offseason after going 37-45 and being bounced in the play-in tournament.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>They re-signed Kristaps Porzingis, De\u2019Anthony Melton and Al Horford on two-year deals and agreed to terms with backup center Charles Bassey on a one-year deal Thursday, just after losing Quentin Post to Memphis. Aside from drafting Yaxel Lendeborg No. 11 overall, have not brought in any outside talent. You\u2019ve got to try to hold the fort down until those guys get back because we do have an idea of who we could be with them.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Curry and James met in four consecutive NBA Finals from 2015-18, with the Warriors winning three series and the Cavaliers coming back from a 3-1 deficit in the other.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>After so many legendary battles \u2013 and a thrilling stretch as teammates at the 2024 Paris Olympics \u2013 Curry saw the appeal in ending their careers on the same team.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>\u201cUntil probably two, three years ago, it was like a pipe dream question or even a thought. That is part of the allure,\u201d Curry said, \u201cFor him going into his 24th season, and me going to my 18th, and the battles that we\u2019ve had, that would be such a unique story in NBA history. But it\u2019s a little premature right now to talk about it.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>As for the work on the Edgewood resort course, Curry said he\u2019d love to play a round with James in Tahoe, where he won the tournament in 2023 and finished fifth last season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI missed it during the Olympics in \u201924 but coming back, you just have higher expectations now \u2019cause you\u2019ve actually won it,\u201d Curry said. \u201cI think that\u2019s good and it\u2019s also dangerous because you kind of want to stay composed in the first round and just enjoy yourself and let it come to you.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have so much fun in competition with these guys \u2014 they bring the best out of you. But more so than just the golf, it\u2019s just the camaraderie out here.
