Need another reason to head to downtown San Jose besides soccer watch parties?<\/p>\n

For 11 days, from today, July 9, through Sunday, July 19, the day of the World Cup final, dozens of restaurants, coffeehouses, lounges and bakeries will offer specials that range from fixed-price meals and chef specials to food-and-wine pairings and savings on casual bites.<\/p>\n

The Dine Downtown promotion, always held in July because it\u2019s often a slow month for business, coincides this time with downtown San Jose\u2019s busiest summer ever.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile the world is still watching, we\u2019re excited to show why downtown is more than a special event destination, that it\u2019s a vibrant culinary powerhouse year-round,\u201d Brian Kurtz, CEO of the San Jose Downtown Association, said in kicking off the promotion, which this year is co-presented by San Jose Jazz Summerfest.<\/p>\n

More than 45 restaurants are offering deals and special menus, tying with a previous year for the highest count in the promotion\u2019s history.<\/p>\n

The star of Dine Downtown is Mezcal restaurant, a downtown mainstay that has participated in all 18 years of the promotion. This year, owner Adolfo Gomez is offering a three-course prix fixe meal \u2014 entree choices include Ribeye Steak, Branzino \u2014 for $49 a person. (See full menu below.)<\/p>\n

Three restaurants have been involved for 13 years: Habana Cuba, The Farmers Union and Nomikai Social Food + Eatery.\u00a0And Scott\u2019s Seafood has been in the promotion for 11 years.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a sampling of the deals already posted. Come back for updates as we add more, and check online for added promotions:<\/p>\n

Adega:<\/strong> The $99 Portuguese prix fixe meal starts with Lula, a squid salad with cilantro sauce, then Gaspacho, followed by entree selections of Peixe, swordfish with a white wine dill sauce, or Coelho, a rabbit \u201cmuamba,\u201d or stew, with zucchini, okra and palm oil. A dessert sampler will be the finale. Wine pairing wit 20-year-old port available for $99.<\/p>\n

AJI Bar & Robata:<\/strong> The two chef\u2019s specials are Grilled Mediterranean Lamb Chops with sides ($30) and French Nicoise Salad with Spanish Octopus ($26).<\/p>\n

Alter Ego Cocktail Club:<\/strong> Choice of Teeny Tini plus Caviar Bump, $20, and Oyster Shooter, $5.<\/p>\n

Angelou\u2019s Mexican Grill:<\/strong> For this $29 food-and-drink pairing, the entree choices include Chicken Fajitas, Steak Ranchero and Pork in Chile Verde. For your paired cocktail, select a Jalapeno Margarita, Paloma or Sangria.<\/p>\n

Angkor Chef:<\/strong> The chef\u2019s special is Kampot Pepper Pork Belly for $28.<\/p>\n

The Club on Post:<\/strong> Receive 15% off the regular menu during Dine Downtown.<\/p>\n

Cobre & Clay:<\/strong> The $26 food-and-drink deal pairs a plate of House Empanadas de Carne, Grilled Chicken Skewers, Crispy Fish Tacos or Loaded Nachos with cocktail choices including a Spicy Margarita, Mojito, Paloma or Tequila Mule.<\/p>\n

El Cafecito by Mezcal:<\/strong> The $12 soup-and-panini special includes a cup of Chicken Tortilla Soup and a Chicken Pesto Panini or a Vegetarian Panini.<\/p>\n

Eox & Nyx:<\/strong> The $65 tasting menu features Kofta or Bruschetta for a starter, followed by entree choices of Smoked Trout Rillette or Chicken with Mojo Bisque. For dessert, select from along Lemon Pie with caramelized pineapple, Loukomades with banana brulee or Chocolate Gelato Sundae with berries. Wine pairing, $30.<\/p>\n

The Farmers Union:<\/strong> The three-course, $48 prix fixe meal starts with Caesar Salad or Creamy Tomato Soup, followed by entree choices of a Half-Rack of Smoked Ribs, Pan-Seared Salmon or Roasted Lemon-Rosemary Chicken. All come with sides. For dessert, it\u2019s a choice of Salted Caramel Bread\u00a0 Pudding or Molten Chocolate Cake.<\/p>\n

Fountain Restaurant:<\/strong> Get special $14 pricing on Endless Mimosas and the Bloody Mary Bar when you buy a brunch entree.<\/p>\n

Habana Cuba:<\/strong> The chef\u2019s special is an Empanada Sampler, $15, featuring an assortment of beef, chicken and spicy elote\/queso varieties.<\/p>\n

La Pe\u00f1ita:<\/strong> The chef\u2019s specials are four mole entrees: Chilaquiles de Mole, Chile Relleno en Mole, Enchiladas de Mole and Pollo en Mole, from $16.95 to $21.95.<\/p>\n

Loft Bar & Bistro:<\/strong> The three-course, $35 special menu, offered on Friday and Saturday nights only, offers entree selections of Teriyaki Short Rib, Grilled Atlantic Salmon or Veggie Stir-Fry, with sides. First course options are Caprese-Stuffed Avocado or Caesar Salad; for dessert, there\u2019s White Chocolate Creme Brulee.<\/p>\n

Mezcal:<\/strong> For this three-course, $49 prix fixe meal, select an entree from among California Ribeye Steak, Grilled Branzino, roasted Pollo al Horno or Green Enchiladas Suizas. All come with sides. The first course is Choriqueso or Mexican Summer Salad, and for dessert it\u2019s a choice of Crispy Churros or Chocolate Mousse Cake.<\/p>\n

Morton\u2019s the Steakhouse:<\/strong> The $69 prix fixe features three courses plus upgrade options. Starter choices include Lobster Bisque, French Onion Soup Gratinee and Wedge or Caesar salad, followed by an entree from the list of Filet Mignon, Heritage Pork Chop, Maine Lobster Ravioli and others. Side dish included. For dessert, Key Lime Pie, Espresso Pot de Creme or Creme Brulee.<\/p>\n

Must Be Thai:<\/strong> The special food-and-drinking pairing features squid, mussels and shrimp in a Young Coconut Seafood Hor Mok entree, $29, and Mango Sticky Rice Milk Punch, $14.<\/p>\n

Nomikai:<\/strong> The chef\u2019s specials are Fresh Summer Pizza, $22, with strawberries, feta, mozzarella, basil and balsamic, and Korean Corn Cheese Nachos, $10.<\/p>\n

Old Spaghetti Factory:<\/strong> Get a free Sicilian Garlic Cheese Bread appetizer with marinara dipping sauce with the purchase of an adult dinner. One per table.<\/p>\n

Paper Plane:<\/strong> Get a chef\u2019s special, the Shrimp Crunchwrap, for $14.<\/p>\n

Petiscos:<\/strong> The three-course, $55 prix fixe features eight starter selections (among them, Shrimp in Garlic Sauce, Flamed Chourico, Steamed Clams) and eight choices of entree (among them, Bacalhau, Duck Rice, Oven-Roasted Octopus). For dessert, select Orange Tort, Flan or Chocolate Mousse.<\/p>\n

Poppy & Claro:<\/strong> A $29 prix fixe lunch special starts with Little Gem Caesar, Meatballs Pomodoro or Trio of Dips with flatbread, followed by entree choices of Roasted Beet & Hummus Bowl, Spicy Vodka Pasta, Chicken Club or Hot Rosa pizza. For dessert, Walnut Cheesecake or Cast-Iron Chocolate Chip Cookie. The three-course dinner, $39, subs in a Fritto Misto appetizer and a Mary\u2019s Chicken entree selection. Pairing of three cocktails, $19, or three mocktails, $9.<\/p>\n

Scott\u2019s Seafood:<\/strong> The three-course, $55 prix fixe meal starts with Clam Chowder or Caesar Salad, then entree selections of Blackened Shrimp Linguine, Pan-Seared Salmon or Chicken Piccata. Upgrades available. Wine pairings start at $10. For dessert, choose New York Cheesecake or Key Lime Pie.<\/p>\n

Secco:<\/strong> A Citrus Avocado Salad is the first course for this $68 prix fixe dinner. Entree choices are Charbroiled Salmon or Red Wine-Braised Short Rib, and both come with sides. Finish with a dessert of Mango Sorbet with Coconut Tapioca.<\/p>\n

Sixth Street Burger:<\/strong> On Dine Downtown days, $29.99 will buy two Smash Cheeseburgers, two orders of fries and two fountain drinks.<\/p>\n

Strata:<\/strong> The $50 prix fixe special starts with Heirloom Tomato Gazpacho with pickled strawberries, followed by Pasta with Mussels and Rockfish in an heirloom tomato bouillabaisse. For dessert, there\u2019s Vanilla Soft Serve with Tomatillo Jam and Gooseberries. Wine pairing, $35.<\/p>\n
