BRENTWOOD \u2014 Walter O\u2019Grodnick will take over as Brentwood\u2019s next police chief after 10 months of holding the position on an interim basis following the retirement of former Chief Tim Herbert.<\/p>\n

With more than 32 years of law enforcement experience, O\u2019Grodnick will officially become the city\u2019s 13th police chief on July 16, the city said in a statement.<\/p>\n

The veteran officer was selected based on input from residents, business owners, employees, and community stakeholders, gathered through a survey with more than 240 responses, said acting City Manager Terrance Davis.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe priorities identified by our community closely aligned with the leadership qualities of Chief O\u2019Grodnick,\u201d Davis said in a statement Monday.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Grodnick has served Brentwood since 1998, after starting his law enforcement career in Galt.<\/p>\n

During his time with the city, O\u2019Grodnick demonstrated the \u201cleadership, humility, character, and vision\u201d to lead the Brentwood Police Department into its next chapter, Davis said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re thrilled to have someone of Chief O\u2019Grodnick\u2019s integrity and caliber in this critical role,\u201d Davis said.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Grodnick said he will continue to serve and work collaboratively with fellow officers, community members and city leaders.<\/p>\n

\u201cI truly appreciate the outpouring of support,\u201d O\u2019Grodnick told this news organization. \u201cI remain fully committed to serving the needs of my entire staff, working closely with our Executive Team in responding to the needs of our community, effectively and efficiently, paired with the highest level of professionalism.\u201d<\/p>\n

O\u2019Grodnick is a graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute and the Contra Costa Local Government Leadership Academy. He holds an associate degree in public safety services and a bachelor\u2019s degree in criminal justice management.<\/p>\n

On Aug. 22, the Brentwood Police Department will host an open house from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for residents to engage with the new chief.<\/p>\n
