SAN FRANCISCO \u2014 Second baseman Luis Arraez left Tuesday night\u2019s game against the Athletics after fouling a ball off his right foot in the bottom of the first inning and is questionable for Wednesday night\u2019s matchup.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy now, everybody knows the flair and the passion he plays with and he always wants to be out there. The good thing is he\u2019s also honest with us,\u201d said manager Tony Vitello following the Giants\u2019 3-1 win.<\/p>\n

Arraez pulled a 1-1 curveball from the Athletics\u2019 Aaron Civale off the top of his right foot and collapsed to the ground in pain. He was met by a trainer and manager Tony Vitello and stayed in the game. Arraez finished the at-bat and flied out to left field, gingerly jogging down the first-base line.<\/p>\n

The 29-year-old remained in the game and took one more at-bat in the bottom of the third, flipping a single into center field, but was removed ahead of the top of the fifth. Casey Schmitt, who started the game in left field, slid over to second base in Arraez\u2019s place.<\/p>\n

Vitello said Arraez underwent an X-ray on his foot that came back clean. Regarding his status for Wednesday, Vitello said the team will check in with Arraez and see if he\u2019s fit to play.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019ll be interesting to see how the swelling is and everything in the morning,\u201d Vitello said. \u201cYou know him: If he can go, he can go. So, we\u2019ll touch base with him in the morning.\u201d<\/p>\n

Including Tuesday\u2019s game, Arraez is hitting .321 with an .803 OPS over 75 games while playing Gold Glove-caliber defense. With the Giants (32-46) being 14\u00a0games under .500, Arraez should be one of the most sought-after players at this year\u2019s Aug. 3 trade deadline.<\/p>\n

Arraez wasn\u2019t the only second baseman who left Tuesday\u2019s game due to injury. The Athletics\u2019 Zack Gelof left the game in the bottom of the second with a right hand laceration and contusion after Matt Chapman inadvertently spiked his hand trying to stretch a single into a double.<\/p>\n

There was also a scary moment in the bottom of the sixth when Jung Hoo Lee\u2019s jaw connected with Jeff McNeil\u2019s arm on a stolen base attempt. Lee spent several moments writhing on the ground, but ultimately stayed in the game.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s funny now knowing Jungy because he\u2019s a lot tougher than I think people realize,\u201d Vitello said. \u201cHe doesn\u2019t verbalize it as much as he would probably in his home country, but that\u2019s a tough dude. Almost too tough. He frustrates me. Good at-bats where he doesn\u2019t get a hit, it ain\u2019t good enough for him. He\u2019s not looking for moral victories out there.\u201d<\/p>\n
