Lashay Durisseau had left behind the Bay Area, where he was allegedly known as \u201cSuperfly,\u201d in favor of delivering spirited sermons about resisting the Devil and following God\u2019s will as the pastor of Yoke Destroying Ministries, which he founded.<\/p>\n

On this particular day, July 24, 2025, found Durisseau at a gas station in his new home of Richmond, Texas, where he purchased a can of engine additive, applied it to his car, and threw it in the trash. But an FBI surveillance team was watching with interest, and this simple act would land Durisseau back in the Bay Area, where he now faces rape charges based on DNA collected from the can.<\/p>\n

Durisseau, 56, is a suspect in sexual attacks against six women from 1994 to 2009, as well as a 2013 incident where he allegedly grabbed the waist and arm of an 11-year-old girl and tried to pull her into a closet at King Jr. High School in Berkeley, where he worked as a janitor. But he faces three rape charges in just two of the alleged incidents, due to myriad issues that include one alleged victim dying, others being hard for police to track down, and prosecutors in Beaumont \u2014 where one alleged sexual assault occurred \u2014 declining to file a case.<\/p>\n

Alameda County prosecutors charged Durisseau with forcible rape and kidnapping enhancements in January. On June 4, Judge Thomas Reardon released him without bail, requiring him to stay at home unless he attends court, visits his lawyer, or goes to the doctor, according to court records. Reardon denied a prosecution motion to set bail at $600,000, which could have kept Durisseau behind bars for longer. The decision comes in light of a recent California Supreme Court decision which asks prosecutors to prove a defendant is a danger to community, something that can be a high burden in sexual assault cases only comprising years-old allegations.<\/p>\n

The charges involve an alleged 1994 incident where Durisseau picked up a sex worker, went to the Berkeley Marina to drink brandy, then allegedly punched and raped her when she insisted on them using a condom. The woman was found by police in Albany, crying on a bench, and taken to a hospital for a rape exam. The next charge, from 2002, alleges Durisseau forced a woman into his car in Oakland, sexually assaulted her, drove toward Richmond, and kicked her out of his car either in or near West Contra Costa, where she called 911.<\/p>\n

The uncharged allegations are similar. A woman in her 40s, who was 17 when Durisseau allegedly raped her in Beaumont, Texas, identified him as her attacker after he was linked to the crime through DNA, according to court records. He hasn\u2019t been charged in that incident, nor in a 2003 Oakland sexual assault, also reportedly linked to him through a DNA match, because the alleged victim can\u2019t be located. A 2008 alleged sexual assault in Oakland, also linked through DNA, can\u2019t be charged because of the victim\u2019s \u201ccurrent mental status,\u201d which police attribute to her trauma from the attack, prosecutors said in court records.<\/p>\n

The same goes for another 2008 alleged rape in Oakland, which was also linked through DNA, but can\u2019t be charged because the woman has since died of cancer, prosecutors allege.<\/p>\n

Durisseau\u2019s lawyer, Annie Beles, wrote in a motion for bail that he is now a \u201ca pastor and evangelist for Christianity\u201d who \u201cadamantly denies the accusations and is eager to prove his innocence.\u201d She argued that Durisseau needs to get out of jail to care for his ailing mother and would abide by pretrial release conditions.<\/p>\n

The sexual assaults went unsolved for years, even after they were linked by DNA to the same perpetrator, authorities said. Police eventually shifted through DNA databases to find a relative of Durisseau and eventually narrowed down on him as a possible suspect. That led to the July 2025 stakeout, where Durisseau threw out the spray can that was tested for DNA and matched to the attacks.<\/p>\n

When police arrested Durisseau last January, he denied knowing or ever having sex with any of the victims, and denied that he\u2019d even have wanted to, authorities said. <\/p>\n
