Singer Bonnie Tyler remains \u201cvery unwell\u201d after emerging from a coma she\u2019d been in for more than a month.<\/p>\n

\u201cBonnie is no longer in a coma but remains very unwell and in intensive care in hospital in Portugal,\u201d those close to the \u201cTotal Eclipse of the Heart\u201d singer posted on her website Monday. \u201cAlthough her condition is improving it is a slow process. Her doctors remain confident that she will make a good recovery but it is going to take time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manh\u00e3 reported on May 8 that the 75-year-old Welsh pop star was hospitalized for what appeared to be a ruptured appendix. She reportedly suffered cardiac arrest related to the procedure and was placed into a medically induced coma.<\/p>\n

Tyler was said to have experienced discomfort while performing in London before returning to her home in Portugal where complications arose. Tyler\u2019s website confirmed that she\u2019d undergone \u201cemergency intestinal surgery,\u201d while warning that disinformation about her health had been circulating.<\/p>\n

Her representatives confirmed Monday that all of Tyler\u2019s summer performances would be canceled or postponed. She was booked to play a string of shows in Germany beginning July 10.<\/p>\n

Tyler still hopes to recover in time to take the stage in the fall.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe would like to thank everyone for the huge outpouring of love and support from all over the world that we have received for Bonnie and want to tell you that she is aware of, and very grateful for, your good wishes,\u201d her family said in their statement further requesting privacy.<\/p>\n

\u201cTotal Eclipse of the Heart\u201d was an enormous 1983 hit that topped the Billboard charts. Tyler also enjoyed success with the singles \u201cHolding Out for a Hero\u201d and \u201cIt\u2019s a Heartache.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n<\/div>\n

Tyler told the British talk show \u201cLoose Women\u201d she hopes to perform as long as possible with the band she\u2019s had for more than 30 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat am I going to do, stop and die?\u201d she joked.<\/p>\n

Tyler turned 75 last week while in recovery. Her current tour includes no U.S. dates.<\/p>\n
