Bryce Eldridge \u2018fits that mold\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Kenneth Bass and his wife, Cindy, filed a complaint in L.A. Superior Court on May 18 for the destruction of their home, their injuries from smoke inhalation and mental anguish. The lawsuit, first reported by L.A. Material, comes as Karen Bass is fighting for reelection in a November runoff election against Councilmember Nithya Raman.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RELATED:\u00a0Catastrophic Palisades fire was set out of a yearning for \u2018revenge on society\u2019, prosecutor says as arson trial begins<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Karen Bass\u2019 office responded to the litigation on Wednesday, June 10, saying, \u201cThere is nothing new here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMayor Bass has spoken of her brother\u2019s loss publicly since January of 2025. Thousands of people are plaintiffs in this action, which names 18 public and private sector defendants,\u201d press secretary Paige Sterling said. \u201cThe City Attorney\u2019s Office is responsible for defending the City and DWP in this lawsuit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The city attorney\u2019s office did not respond to an email seeking comment.<\/p>\n<p>Survivors of the fire that claimed 12 lives and tore through Pacific Palisades and nearby areas have sued the city and the L.A. Department of Water and Power after some fire hydrants ran dry as the nearby Santa Ynez Reservoir sat empty. The complaints also allege that sparking or downed power lines exacerbated the inferno. The suits are now under one master complaint, <\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nextcitydigest.com\/?p=1848\">77-year old man convicted of Bay Area cold case murder gets life sentence<\/a><\/p>\n<p>DWP has denied the allegations, calling the master complaint \u201cmisleading or inaccurate.\u201d<\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The master lawsuit also targets a slew of defendants who have been blamed for overgrown brush, toppled wooden power poles, natural gas explosions and a lack of water, all contributing to the mammoth blaze. Among the defendants are the Getty Villa, SoCalGas, Southern California Edison, Las Virgenes Municipal Water District and three communications companies.<\/p>\n<p>Kenneth Bass\u2019 home sat on a 1.5-acre lot, with a panoramic view of the Malibu Pier and Surfrider Beach. While the main structure was destroyed, a guest house, pool and putting green survived the January 2025 blaze, according to Zillow.
