Authorities briefly closed a small stretch of Highway 101\u2019s northbound lane in San Jose on Sunday afternoon during a police standoff that led to the arrest of an armed suspect.<\/p>\n

The highway lane remained shut down for roughly an hour between Blossom Hill Road and Hellyer Avenue, with traffic being redirected onto surface streets. It reopened at 3:38 p.m. after authorities had declared the area safe.<\/p>\n

Officers first responded around 1:07 p.m. to a report that the suspect was trespassing on private property along the 4200 block of Dove Road, a small frontage street that sits across the highway from a local park.<\/p>\n

Police released few details about the suspect, described as a man armed with a knife who was behaving erratically.<\/p>\n

The ensuing standoff \u2014 in which police negotiated with the man \u2014 lasted roughly an hour before he was taken into custody, authorities said.<\/p>\n
