CHICAGO \u2014 When you hit seven homers in a single game, you\u2019re going to make some history along the way.<\/p>\n

The Giants put on an offensive masterclass in their 18-3 victory against the Chicago Cubs on a muggy Friday afternoon at Wrigley, their largest margin of victory this season.<\/p>\n

Matt Chapman hit two homers, one being the Giants\u2019 sixth grand slam of the season, and matched the San Francisco-era record of eight RBIs. Willy Adames and Casey Schmitt also hit two homers apiece, while rookie Jonah Cox hit the first home run of his career.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like we\u2019ve really been swinging the bats well this whole road trip, so it\u2019s been fun,\u201d Chapman said.<\/p>\n

The Giants made a whole bunch of history in Friday\u2019s blowout of the Cubs, so here\u2019s a breakdown of what San Francisco accomplished with its blowout win over Chicago:<\/p>\n

Slam Francisco<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Giants became the sixth team in MLB history to hit six grand slams in 20 days with Chapman\u2019s grand slam off the Cubs\u2019 Edward Cabrera in the top of the fourth. During this run, the Giants have gotten grand slams from Adames, Bader (two), Rafael Devers and Eric Haase.<\/p>\n

With Adames hitting a grand slam at Coors Field on Sunday and Haase hitting one at American Family Field on Thursday, the Giants also became just the third squad (since 1901) to hit a grand slam in every leg of a three-city road trip, joining the 2023 Houston Astros and 1983 California Angels.<\/p>\n

\n<\/div>\n

New third base coach Gary Pettis, coincidentally, is tied to both of those teams. Pettis was the third base coach on the 2023 Astros under Dusty Baker, as well as a player on the 1983 Angels. While Pettis was on that Angels team, he wasn\u2019t on the active roster at the time of their grand slam history.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s something that we\u2019ve been doing a lot lately,\u201d Chapman said. \u201cObviously, when you hit grand slams, it\u2019s fun. It\u2019s nice to get all those runs in, and it helps when you put runs up. Not something that I\u2019m thinking about when we\u2019re up there, but it\u2019s been kind of fun to see everybody hit those homers with guys on base.\u201d<\/p>\n

Touch \u2019em all<\/strong><\/p>\n

With two homers on Friday, Chapman has now hit a home run in every current MLB stadium.<\/p>\n

\n<\/div>\n

Chapman hasn\u2019t homered in a major league game at Sutter Health Park, the shared home of the Athletics and the Giants\u2019 Triple-A affiliate, but he did homer at the venue during his time in the minors.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt depends on if you count Sacramento or not, but I\u2019ve homered in every ballpark,\u201d Chapman said. \u201cI got Sacramento in Triple-A, so we\u2019ll count it. But this was my last one,\u00a0 so that was cool.\u201d<\/p>\n

Good company<\/b><\/p>\n

Chapman\u2019s eight RBIs on Friday are tied for the most in a single game by a Giant since the team moved to San Francisco.<\/p>\n

There have been five other Giants who have driven in this many runs in a single game during the team\u2019s time on the West Coast: Wilmer Flores (May 16, 2025), Joc Pederson (May 24, 2022), Brandon Crawford (July 15, 2019), Orlando Cepeda (July 4, 1961) and Willie Mays (April 30, 1961).<\/p>\n

The franchise record for most RBIs in a single game belongs to Phil Weintraub, who drove in 11 runs on April 30, 1944, as the New York Giants defeated the Brooklyn Dodgers, 26-8.<\/p>\n

Count \u2018em all the same<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cox may have just made a very obscure piece of history.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, the rookie notched his first major league hit against the Rockies\u2019 Hunter Goodman, a catcher. On Friday, Cox hit his first home run against the Cubs\u2019 Carson Kelly, another catcher. According to Elias Sports, Cox is the first player in at least the expansion era (1961) to get his first career hit and<\/em> his first home run off of position players, in separate at-bats.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat would be cool,\u201d Cox laughed about the possibility of being the only one to ever do that.<\/p>\n

Stockton\u2019s Mitch Walding homered off a position player for the Phillies in 2018 for his first MLB hit and home run with one swing of the bat.<\/p>\n

Bombs away<\/strong><\/p>\n

This marks the fourth time since the Giants moved to San Francisco and the eighth time in franchise history that they\u2019ve hit at least seven home runs in a single game, the most recent instance being on April 3, 2023.<\/p>\n

There has only been one instance when the Giants have hit eight homers in a single game: April 30, 1961, the day that Mays hit four home runs against the Milwaukee Braves. Along with Mays\u2019 quadfecta, the Giants got two homers from Jos\u00e9 Pag\u00e1n and one piece from Orlando Cepeda and Felipe Alou.<\/p>\n

Triple double<\/strong><\/p>\n

Adames, Chapman and Schmitt became the third trio of Giants to all hit two homers apiece in the same game, the other two instances were on July 2nd, 2002 (Damon Minor, Reggie Sanders and Tsuyoshi Shinjo) and July 8, 1956 (Willie Mays, Daryl Spencer, Wes Westrum).<\/p>\n
