{"id":1020,"date":"2026-06-02T13:10:54","date_gmt":"2026-06-02T13:10:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nextcitydigest.com\/?p=1020"},"modified":"2026-06-02T13:10:54","modified_gmt":"2026-06-02T13:10:54","slug":"video-of-unattended-peninsula-vote-center-sparks-concern","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nextcitydigest.com\/?p=1020","title":{"rendered":"Video of unattended Peninsula vote center sparks concern"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<p>BELMONT \u2013 A San Mateo County supervisor is calling for an investigation after a Belmont vote center appeared to be left unattended.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nextcitydigest.com\/?p=1018\">Eye on the Hills: Cozy new Thai restaurant opens in Oakland\u2019s Montclair<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A voter recently reported finding no election workers at the vote center at Notre Dame de Namur University when she arrived to drop off her ballot, Supervisor David Canepa said in a statement Monday evening.<\/p>\n<p>Canepa said the voter provided video footage of the vote center to county election officials and requested an explanation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter reviewing the video myself, the vote center appeared unusually empty and unattended,\u201d Canepa said. \u201cAt a time when public confidence in our elections is more important than ever, any report involving an unmanned voting location or questions about ballot security deserves immediate review and a prompt public response.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The footage shows ballot boxes in the center while no election workers are present.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nextcitydigest.com\/?p=1016\">Trade revisited: As Sharks continue to build, Tomas Hertl nears the Cup<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Canepa said he wants officials to investigate the incident, determine whether all election security and operational procedures were followed and provide a clear public explanation of what happened.<\/p>\n<p>The supervisor also asked officials to reassure voters that appropriate ballot security measures were maintained throughout the voting period.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven if there is a reasonable explanation, voters should never be left wondering whether proper safeguards are in place,\u201d Canepa said. \u201cTransparency is essential to maintaining trust in our democratic process.\u201d<\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Canepa said his request for an investigation is intended to strengthen public confidence through transparency and accountability.
