49ers’ comebacks await Kittle, Warner, Bosa; only Collins ruled out

MELBOURNE, Australia – George Kittle, Fred Warner, and Nick Bosa are the 49ers’ most decorated draft picks of the Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch era this decade – and they’re all ready to go for the season opener here against the Los Angeles Rams.

“You don’t want to be dumb, but you want to play as much football as you can before you can’t play anymore,” said Kittle, who is eight months removed from an Achilles tear.

Bosa said Wednesday he is 100% ready to get back from his right knee’s torn anterior cruciate ligament in last season’s home opener. As for Warner, he primed himself to come back for an NFC Championship Game that never materialized for the 49ers, so he’s extra eager to roll now.

Defensive tackle Alfred Collins, who sustained a season-ending knee injury Tuesday, is the only Niner ruled out of the opener, which kicks off at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday at 10: 35 a.m. (5:35 p.m. PT Thursday).

James Thompson Jr., an undrafted rookie defensive tackle, is questionable with a hamstring injury, and that completes the 49ers’ injury list, almost.

With defensive end Sam Okuayinonu going on Injured Reserve last week with a foot fracture, the 49ers are expected to use at least one of their two available practice-squad elevations on a defensive lineman, and the deadline to do so is 6 a.m. Friday AUST.

The Rams ruled out only defensive tackle Aaron Donald, who did not travel with the team which arrived some 28 hours before kickoff after the 15-hour flight.

Fully available to suit up are Kittle (Achilles), Bosa (knee), linebackers Dre Greenlaw (Achilles) and Luke Gifford (hamstring); cornerbacks Renardo Green (hamstring) and Upton Stout (Achilles); defensive tackle Grayson Halton (ankle); defensive end Romello Height (ankle); and fullback Kyle Juszczyk; Warner is coming off last season’s ankle fracture and has fully participated in practice since camp began.

Defensive end Myles Garrett (knee), linebacker Grant Suard (hamstring) and cornerback Jaylen Watson (toe) are the only other Rams with injury issues but all are cleared to play.
