Festivities will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the San Jose grocery group’s Rose Garden store on Naglee Avenue, where it all began in 1976. The two other stores are in Willow Glen and in Sunnyvale.
According to the family history, founders Andrea and Rosa Zanotto left Italy after World War II with their five children and settled temporarily in Venezuela while awaiting U.S. immigration papers. They welcomed five more children there, then moved in 1955 to the United States, where they had three more — for a total of 13.
The anniversary party will feature 50 vendors, including local businesses, outdoors and indoors; 50 specially selected items at 50% off on Saturday only at this Rose Garden store; plus a DJ, face painting and other activities.

Customers can find the list of half-off items — not surprisingly, it’s full of the Italian specialty products that Zanotto’s is known for carrying — at the store website, www.zanottos.com/ad-specials.
Another one-day sale will extend to other Zanotto’s locations, with 20% off all meat department purchases at the three stores.
Details: 1970 Naglee Ave., San Jose. All three stores are open daily from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. (Rose Garden, Sunnyvale) or 9 p.m. (Willow Glen).
