PWHL San Jose — as the Bay Area’s first professional women’s hockey team is known — may not have a name yet, but it does have a jersey.

The team, which begins its inaugural season Dec. 5, unveiled mandarin orange and sky blue jerseys with “San Jose” stitched diagonally across the front. The franchise is expected to reveal its official name and logo “prior to puck drop” at its debut at SAP Center on Dec. 5 against the Minnesota Frost.
San Jose is one of four new expansion teams that joined the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) this year, bringing the league to a total of 12 teams. The San Jose team has already made a splash by hiring Team Canada’s coach, Troy Ryan, and recruiting members of Team USA’s gold-medal-winning squad, including Laila Edwards and Rory Guilday. The team recently released its initial 29-member training camp roster.

The choice of mandarin orange is a nod to San Jose’s historic orange groves and serves as a primary color on the San Jose city flag.
