Mark Lewis Hinton, 44, was convicted of kidnapping to commit rape, domestic violence, and multiple felonies related to sexual assault of two women. He committed both 2022 crimes after absconding from parole, after serving an 11-year sentence for rape, prosecutors said. He was sentenced to 169 years in prison last week.
According to the Contra Costa District Attorney’s office, Hinton cut off his ankle monitor in September 2022 and then raped a woman he knew casually in a Concord hotel. Three months later, he sexually assaulted and abused an unhoused Richmond woman he was dating.

In the Concord attack, he strangled and beat the victim. In Richmond, he held the woman at knifepoint. Hinton was convicted in both attacks last year, but delayed sentencing until Oct. 2, authorities said.
Deputy District Attorney Danielle Brown, who prosecuted the case, told jurors that Hinton’s second victim “realized that he was going to kill her at some point” and that she’s lucky to be alive, according to the DA’s news release. DA Diana Becton released a statement praising the victims’ “extraordinary courage.”
